Join us at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday 22nd July with Bafula and Don Kipper to enjoy London’s cultural cosmopolitanism at its finest.
Bafula
1pm, Central Bar, Royal Festival Hall
The name Bafula comes from a confluence of two rivers in West Africa where sweet and salty waters meet and flow together. The band live up to their namesake by blending traditional melodies and rhythms from Gambia with funk, rock and jazz. Jali Bakary Konteh’s soaring voice and gentle kora strings will soothe the stress of the working week – enjoy Bafula’s joyful beats to get ready for the weekend!
Don Kipper
5.30pm, The Clore Ballroom, Royal Festival Hall
Reflecting the cultural diversity of North East London, Don Kipper are an innovative ensemble celebrating and transforming a wide range of traditional musical forms, from Turkish Fasıl and Greek Rebetiko to Gypsy Jazz and Klezmer. With two albums, two European tours, the Moshe Beregovski Award for best Klezmer Newcomers (2014) and the victory at The World Music Network’s Battle of the Bands (2015) under their belts, Don Kipper will bring their rowdy, unruly and boundless enthusiasm to the Southbank Centre and give you the right “Friday feeling”!
